Travel Tips

This page gives you some tips on how to make the most of your travelling, especially on day trips when you go on a hike or a bush walk or even down to the beach.

Carry your own luggage

If you are travelling with your partner or your child or even with friends, always carry your own luggage. If you have kids, make sure that they also carry a small backpack (maybe not all of their luggage). This is also a great learning technique for the kids. You will then get to know exactly what you need and others around you will also be happy and travel light!

Carry a water bladder

This is one of the best things to carry water in. Takes minimal space, you will always be hydrated and it can carry lots of water. Most backpacks come with clasps and space to keep your water bladders. I have also seen little water bladders for kids.

Invest in a good pair of shoes

This need not be top of the line heavy hiking shoes which costs hundreds of dollars. You will get a good pair of shoes between $100-$200 in any of the big brands. This one time investment is totally worth the kind of travel adventures you will have!

Pack a light lunch

Always pack a lunch. Don’t carry big boxes with you, each one to his/her own. Make your kids carry their lunches, they sure will feel proud. Use an aluminum foil to wrap your sandwiches instead of carrying it in a box. A multi grain sandwich is the best lunch you can carry!

Hydrolytes

These are small tablets that contain minerals and will definitely help if you if you feel dehydrated while walking/hiking.

Insect spray

One of the most important things to carry if you are going up the mountains. Will save you a lot of trouble

Sunscreen and a cap/hat

Also much needed even if you are travelling in winter. Apply sunscreen behind your ears and on your face too! You might get sunburned otherwise.

Cut your toenails

One of the most underrated things that must be done to have a hassle free hike is cutting your toe nails. The discomfort on your feet that these nails cause is something that is overlooked most of the time.

Carry a light rain jacket

Even if it is hot, this will come in handy. You do not need to carry layers and layers of jackets if you are hiking, but just one little rain jacket can save you from severe heat or rain or sudden temperature drops.

Carry Swimware

Light and simple swimware, preferably something that you can wear under your clothes. Don't be fussy about towels and taking a bath at the beach etc., you can do that when you get back home!
